Le “sociologue-expert” à la télévision :un sens pour la posture sociologique ?

TV plays a key role in opinion making. For many it is a primary source of information. In their quest for relevance sociologists cannot afford to ignore media coverage. This article based on the appearances of sociologists on French speaking TV channels in Belgium, examines the practicalities of such interventions. In addition to targeted appearances the relationships between sociologists and journalists are studied. As power is at stake, conflicts can arise in these relationships which are here located at the macrosociological level of field theory. Some of the key issues involving sociology and the media are thus approached
